Sufficient fuel for festive season: NOC

Oct 10, 2015- Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) said on Saturday that it has maintained sufficient stock of petroleum to ensure that people won’t have difficulties travelling home to mark the Dashain festival.
Speaking at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Legislature-Parliament, NOC Managing Director Gopal Bahadur Khadka said, “We have been distributing petroleum products proportionally every day to maintain stock for the festive season. Public vehicles will get petroleum as per the requirement.”
As for aircrafts, the NOC chief informed that the current stock can meet the demand of domestic airlines for around 20 days. Khadka said that the state owned petroleum supplier had envisioned the festive season demand and is controlling supplies of petroleum at present.
Kathmandu Valley has a demand of around 300 kilolitres of petrol and 400 kilolitres of diesel every day, according to NOC. As of now, the corporation is distributing between 25 to 300 kilolitres of petrol and 200 to 250 kilolitres of diesel through several petrol pumps across the country.
According to Home Ministry Spokesperson Laxmi Prasad Dhakal, around 2.5 million people are expected to leave the Valley during the festive season this year. “Around 42,000 vehicles will be taking on the streets of various parts of the country,” Dhakal said. He added that there will be requirement of 2 million litres of petroleum to fulfil the market demand.
